Due to the recent announcement of the 2015 smash-hit “One Punch Man” to receive a second season, I was ecstatic to have finally seen Madhouse studios finally break out of their shell of never making a sequel. I thought it would be a fun idea for me to come up with a list of shows that I believe deserve a continuation and what I would love to see from them. Whether if it is by the means of another season or a movie, these thirteen shows are ones that I would love to see more of in the future.
==================================================================
Anime: Chihayafuru
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Series Synopsis: “Chihaya Ayase, a strong-willed and tomboyish girl, grows up under the shadow of her older sister. With no dreams of her own, she is contented with her share in life till she meets Arata Wataya. The quiet transfer student in her elementary class introduces her to competitive karuta, a physically and mentally demanding card game inspired by the classic Japanese anthology of Hundred Poets. Captivated by Arata’s passion for the game and inspired by the possibility of becoming the best in Japan, Chihaya quickly falls in love with the world of karuta. Along with the prodigy Arata and her haughty but hard-working friend Taichi Mashima, she joins the local Shiranami Society. The trio spends their idyllic childhood days playing together, until circumstances split them up.
Now in high school, Chihaya has grown into a karuta freak. She aims to establish the Municipal Mizusawa High Competitive Karuta Club, setting her sights on the national championship at Omi Jingu. Reunited with the now indifferent Taichi, Chihaya’s dream of establishing a karuta team is only one step away from becoming true: she must bring together members with a passion for the game that matches her own.”
Reasoning: Chihayafuru was one of those series that a friend of mine ended up recommending me on a whim and I didn’t think much of it. Little did I realize that it would end up becoming one of my all time favorites. While watching the show I was absolutely engaged with the the characters and wanted to see more and more of them. For being a sports series about a competitive poem guessing match… yeah… you read that correctly, it ended up being highly addictive and easy to follow since the show did an excellent job of explaining the sport. I desperately wish to see more of my waifurecommending me on a whim and I didn’t think much of it. I desperately wish to see more of my waifu Chihaya, tho sadly I think that may never happen. However, luckily for me the show had two seasons totally for a grand 50 episodes. The thing that disappoints me the most is the fact how I know that there is quite a lot of content left to be adapted on this sports series.
Anime: Death Parade
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Series Synopsis: “After death, there is no heaven or hell, only a bar that stands between reincarnation and oblivion. There the attendant will, one after another, challenge pairs of the recently deceased to a random game in which their fate of either ascending into reincarnation or falling into the void will be wagered. Whether it’s bowling, darts, air hockey, or anything in between, each person’s true nature will be revealed in a ghastly parade of death and memories, dancing to the whims of the bar’s master. Welcome to Quindecim, where Decim, arbiter of the afterlife, awaits!”
Reasoning: Being how this is an anime original episodic series with an almost infinite amount scenarios and household games to cover, you might not be that surprised seeing this show on the list. For all the flack that this show gets for not being as good as Death Billiards, personally I absolutely loved this show. From the unique twists on popular activities like bowling to playing darts and even extreme twister… I want to see more of this fascinating concept and different character relation dynamics. Nonetheless, this show is certainly one to remember that also contains two of the best episodes I have ever seen of any anime. Just saying how I want more is an understatement.
Anime: Devil is a Part-Timer
Studio: Whitefox
Series Synopsis: “Striking fear into the hearts of mortals, the Demon Lord Satan begins to conquer the land of Ente Isla with his vast demon armies. However, while embarking on this brutal quest to take over the continent, his efforts are foiled by the hero Emilia, forcing Satan to make his swift retreat through a dimensional portal only to land in the human world. Along with his loyal general Alsiel, the demon finds himself stranded in modern-day Tokyo and vows to return and complete his subjugation of Ente Isla—that is, if they can find a way back!
Powerless in a world without magic, Satan assumes the guise of a human named Sadao Maou and begins working at MgRonald’s—a local fast-food restaurant—to make ends meet. He soon realizes that his goal of conquering Ente Isla is just not enough as he grows determined to climb the corporate ladder and become the ruler of Earth, one satisfied customer at a time!
Whether it’s part-time work, household chores, or simply trying to pay the rent on time, Hataraku Maou-sama! presents a hilarious view of the most mundane aspects of everyday life, all through the eyes of a hapless demon lord.”
Reasoning: I don’t have too much to say except for why on earth isn’t there more of this show? I want to see more of this unique character dynamic in a modern setting. Such an inventive series that is just a shame that there isn’t more.
Anime: Gakkou Gurashi
Studio: Lerche
Series Synopsis: “Yuki Takeya loves her school so much that she does not want to ever leave! Megurigaoka Private High School is a unique and lively place where Yuki enjoys her carefree life as a third-year high school student and member of the School Living Club. The club, consisting of the president Yuuri Wakasa, the athletic Kurumi Ebisuzawa, the mature junior Miki Naoki, the supervising teacher Megumi Sakura, and the club dog Taroumaru, prides itself on making the most of life at school. However, this illusion of endless bliss is just a bubble waiting to be burst because Yuki is unable to perceive what is truly happening around her. In reality, all is not as it seems—the real purpose of the School Living Club is to escape from the shocking and disturbing truth: the girls are in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and have barricaded themselves inside the school as the sole survivors.”
Reasoning: Can I just please see what happens to these girls after they left the school? Did one of the girls end up turning into a zombie? Did they end up finding some underground civilization of survivors? Just tell me what their journey is like out there!!! The way how the show was ended is like if the movie Cast Away was to end the moment after Chuck Noland left the island, but never showed what happened next. Just please… give me more of this Studio Lerche… that’s all I ask.
Anime: Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Studio: A-1 Pictures
Series Synopsis: “Fear, survival, instinct. Thrown into a foreign land with nothing but hazy memories and the knowledge of their name, they can feel only these three emotions resonating deep within their souls. A group of strangers is given no other choice than to accept the only paying job in this game-like world—the role of a soldier in the Reserve Army—and eliminate anything that threatens the peace in their new world, Grimgar.
When all of the stronger candidates join together, those left behind must create a party together to survive: Manato, a charismatic leader and priest; Haruhiro, a nervous thief; Yume, a cheerful hunter; Shihoru, a shy mage; Mogzo, a kind warrior; and Ranta, a rowdy dark knight. Despite its resemblance to one, this is no game—there are no redos or respawns; it is kill or be killed.
It is now up to this ragtag group of unlikely fighters to survive together in a world where life and death are separated only by a fine line.”
Reasoning: For a show that I went in expecting to be terrible, I was genuinely surprised by it. The show has a pretty solid cast of characters but lacks a decent and even coherent plot, I just feel like if the show was just starting to get going until… well… I feel like if these first 12 episodes were just set up for something larger something more grand scale but it ended up stopping before the show had anywhere to go. Also, Mary is Best Girl 2016 and this show’s watercolor backgrounds are a reason in of itself to go see the show… no seriously I want my Wallpaper the Animation back. And feel free to check out my review for the show here.
Anime: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Studio: Shaft
Series Synopsis: “Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki are regular middle school girls with regular lives, but all that changes when they encounter Kyuubey, a cat-like magical familiar, and Homura Akemi, the new transfer student.
Kyuubey offers them a proposition: he will grant one of their wishes and in exchange, they will each become a magical girl, gaining enough power to fulfill their dreams. However Homura, a magical girl herself, urges them not to accept the offer since everything is not what it seems.
A story of hope, despair, and friendship, Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica deals with the difficulties of being a magical girl and the price one has to pay to make a dream come true.”
Reasoning: I get it, there is Rebellion. What I am talking about is asking for what happens after the events of Rebellion. Whether if it is a movie or another tv series, I want to see a conclusion to the Rebellion. And I am almost positive that Shaft would be willing to do it since Madoka was one of their two biggest money makers in the studio’s history.
Anime: Mob Psycho 100
Studio: Bones
Series Synopsis: “Kageyama Shigeo (a.k.a. “Mob”) is a 8th grader with psychic abilities. He could bend spoons and lift objects with his mind from a young age, but he slowly began to withhold from using his abilities in public due to the negative attention he kept receiving. Now, the only thing he wants is to become friends with a girl in his class, Tsubomi. With his psychic “mentor” (who has no psychic powers), he continues his daily life, attempting to realize his purpose in life.”
Reasoning: Welp… It just ended and I want more. As a matter of that, I would much rather see a sequel of this series over seeing a sequel of One Punch Man. Sorry OPM fanboys, but Mob Psycho was the vastly superior series. Fun and interesting characters, consistently funny jokes and scenarios, unique directional choices, and Reigen… all of this are things that I believe that One Punch Man did not have.
Anime: No Game No Life
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Series Synopsis: “No Game No Life is a surreal comedy that follows Sora and Shiro, shut-in NEET siblings and the online gamer duo behind the legendary username “Kuuhaku.” They view the real world as just another lousy game; however, a strange e-mail challenging them to a chess match changes everything—the brother and sister are plunged into an otherworldly realm where they meet Tet, the God of Games.
The mysterious god welcomes Sora and Shiro to Disboard, a world where all forms of conflict—from petty squabbles to the fate of whole countries—are settled not through war, but by way of high-stake games. This system works thanks to a fundamental rule wherein each party must wager something they deem to be of equal value to the other party’s wager. In this strange land where the very idea of humanity is reduced to child’s play, the indifferent genius gamer duo of Sora and Shiro have finally found a real reason to keep playing games: to unite the sixteen races of Disboard, defeat Tet, and become the gods of this new, gaming-is-everything world.”
Reasoning: For being one of my first ever anime series to have seen, this sure was an interesting and fun watch. I really enjoyed the characters and the setting and the game mechanics and the art style and the music and the… well long term short, I want more… like right now! I know, I know, I know… that there is a movie coming but from my knowledge it will be a spinoff movie and even if it wasn’t, it would not be able to cover all of the content available. “Dear Madhouse, can we please have more. Because I hate seeing good shows end on an open ending and not accomplishing what the series set out to do in the first place. Sincerely, the anime community.”
Anime: Osomatsu-san
Studio: Pierrot
Series Synopsis: “The majority of the Matsuno household is comprised of six identical siblings: self-centered leader Osomatsu, manly Karamatsu, voice of reason Choromatsu, cynical Ichimatsu, hyperactive Juushimatsu, and lovable Todomatsu. Despite each one of them being over the age of 20, they are incredibly lazy and have absolutely no motivation to get a job, choosing to live as NEETs instead. In the rare occurrence that they try to look for employment and are somehow able to land an interview, their unique personalities generally lead to their swift rejection.
From trying to pick up girlfriends to finding the perfect job, the daily activities of the Matsuno brothers are never dull as they go on all sorts of crazy, and often downright bizarre, adventures. Though they desperately search for a way to improve their social standing, it won’t be possible if they can’t survive the various challenges that come with being sextuplets!”
Reasoning: Welp… If you don’t know me in even the slightest, then you would know that I am an osomatsu fanatic. It’s like a drug, I can’t stop it. I need more. Studio Pierrot, you are insane for not greenlighting a sequel immediately after the sale count was gained from volume one of the show because this is by far your biggest money maker since Naruto. So please give me more and I will gladly throw all of my money at you. By far my favorite comedy anime I have ever seen. A definite “must watch” for all of you who love comedy anime. Also, check out my review of it here.
Anime: Psycho-Pass
Studio: Production I.G.
Series Synopsis: “Justice, and the enforcement of it, has changed. In the 22nd century, Japan enforces the Sibyl System, an objective means of determining the threat level of each citizen by examining their mental state for signs of criminal intent, known as their Psycho-Pass. Inspectors uphold the law by subjugating, often with lethal force, anyone harboring the slightest ill-will; alongside them are Enforcers, jaded Inspectors that have become latent criminals, granted relative freedom in exchange for carrying out the Inspectors’ dirty work.
Into this world steps Akane Tsunemori, a young woman with an honest desire to uphold justice. However, as she works alongside veteran Enforcer Shinya Kougami, she soon learns that the Sibyl System’s judgments are not as perfect as her fellow Inspectors assume. With everything she has known turned on its head, Akane wrestles with the question of what justice truly is, and whether it can be upheld through the use of a system that may already be corrupt.”
Reasoning: SEASON TWO NEVER HAPPENED!!! The movie was great tho, and I am extremely interested in seeing more of this world and these characters. Not much I can say other than the fact of how I want to learn more about the Sybil System and witnessing first hand as to how it develops over time or even see the destruction of the system entirely.
Anime: Rokka no Yuusha
Studio: Passione
Series Synopsis: “An ancient legend states that with the revival of the Demon God, six heroes—the Braves of the Six Flowers—will be chosen by the Goddess of Fate, granting them power to rise up against the fiends attempting to turn the world into a living hell. Adlet Mayer, self-proclaimed “Strongest Man in the World,” has arrived at the continent of Piena in hopes of becoming a Brave. Although it doesn’t go as smoothly as he had planned, Adlet is ultimately chosen as one of the six heroes shortly after being greeted by Nashetania Loei Piena Augustra, crown princess and fellow Brave.
Rokka no Yuusha follows the two as they embark upon their destined journey to fight the Demon God, intending to meet up with their fellow heroes at a small temple outside of the Land of the Howling Demons, the fiends’ domain. However, when they finally unite, seven heroes are present, and soon the others begin to suspect Adlet to be a fraud. Now on the run, Adlet must utilize his unique skill set and wit in a fight for his life to identify which member of the group is the true impostor before it’s too late!”
Reasoning: Man. I don’t know where to even begin with this series. This show was one like Grimgar that I went in expecting to be horrible but ended up coming out as one of my top five favorite series of 2015. It is truly one of the most fascinating mystery anime that I have ever come across and it is also one with an excellent and equally unique and original characters to go along with it. And for the way it ended, teasing the fans for another season but too soon never happen… so pissed off about that.
Anime: Shokugeki no Souma
Studio: J.C. Staff
Series Synopsis: “Ever since he was a child, fifteen-year-old Souma Yukihira has helped his father by working as the sous chef in the restaurant his father runs and owns. Throughout the years, Souma developed a passion for entertaining his customers with his creative, skilled, and daring culinary creations. His dream is to someday own his family’s restaurant as its head chef.
Yet when his father suddenly decides to close the restaurant to test his cooking abilities in restaurants around the world, he sends Souma to Tootsuki Culinary Academy, an elite cooking school where only 10 percent of the students graduate. The institution is famous for its “Shokugeki” or “food wars,” where students face off in intense, high-stakes cooking showdowns.
As Souma and his new schoolmates struggle to survive the extreme lifestyle of Tootsuki, more and greater challenges await him, putting his years of learning under his father to the test.”
Reasoning: Now that season 2 is over… how else am I supposed to eat lunch or dinner? By watching a show not about cooking? Pffffft, that’s preposterous!
Anime: Spice & Wolf
Studio: Brains Base
Series Synopsis: “Holo is a powerful wolf deity who is celebrated and revered in the small town of Pasloe for blessing the annual harvest. Yet as years go by and the villagers become more self-sufficient, Holo, who stylizes herself as the “Wise Wolf of Yoitsu,” has been reduced to a mere folk tale. When a traveling merchant named Kraft Lawrence stops at Pasloe, Holo offers to become his business partner if he eventually takes her to her northern home of Yoitsu. The savvy trader recognizes Holo’s unusual ability to evaluate a person’s character and accepts her proposition. Now in the possession of both sharp business skills and a charismatic negotiator, Lawrence inches closer to his goal of opening his own shop. However, as Lawrence travels the countryside with Holo in search of economic opportunities, he begins to realize that his aspirations are slowly morphing into something unexpected.”
Reasoning: I need more of that Holo x Lawrence greatness. Judging from the fact how this show is a smashing success in Japan and how the light novel series has enough content for five more seasons if they wanted. I just don’t understand why on earth there isn’t more. Also for those of you reading this, I highly suggest you watch Spice & Wolf immediately because you are in for one hell of a series.
Anime: Usagi Drop
Studio: Production I.G
Series Synopsis: “Daikichi Kawachi is a 30-year-old bachelor working a respectable job but otherwise wandering aimlessly through life. When his grandfather suddenly passes away, he returns to the family home to pay his respects. Upon arriving at the house, he meets a mysterious young girl named Rin who, to Daikichi’s astonishment, is his grandfather’s illegitimate daughter!
The shy and unapproachable girl is deemed an embarrassment to the family, and finds herself ostracized by her father’s relatives, all of them refusing to take care of her in the wake of his death. Daikichi, angered by their coldness towards Rin, announces that he will take her in—despite the fact that he is a young, single man with no prior childcare experience.
Usagi Drop is the story of Daikichi’s journey through fatherhood as he raises Rin with his gentle and affectionate nature, as well as an exploration of the warmth and interdependence that are at the heart of a happy, close-knit family.”
Reasoning: I know. I know. I know. I know about the ending of the manga and that is absolutely NOT what I am asking for. Although, feel free to check out my review of the show here. However, all that I am proposing is to see more episodes showing Rin slowly grow over time from childhood to graduation.
Death Parade and Grimgar definitely need another series. More No Game No Life would be cool too.

I want a second season for: Ouran, Loveless, Fruits Basket, Skip Beat, Gekkan SHoujo Nozaki-kun, Escaflowne, Akatsuki no Yona, Daiya no Ace, Oofuri, and 5 bajillion more shows that only got one season ;_;

^ only two of those that I’ve seen are Yona and Gekkan Shoujo.
Also judging by this list of yours, if you have yet to watch Chihayafuru or Spice & Wolf, then we need to change that immediately because those two would be right up your alley.

I agree. So many of these shows deserve a second season, or at least some form of continuation.
I personally really want Index Season 3, a real Psycho Pass Season 2 and some more Grimgar.
